Who We Are:
Founded in 1999 by Rabbi Shaya Erps, Chaverim of Rockland, a 501(c)3, continues to make significant contributions to Rockland County’s emergency services. Fielding over 20,000 calls annually, Chaverim’s altruistic, round the clock services have earned the respect of community and local law enforcement members alike.
Chaverim of Rockland has made an impact worldwide as well. Since 1999, more than 34 Chaverim branches have opened round the world following our system of volunteer-fueled emergency services.

What We Do
- Chaverim volunteers are ready to take on any non-medical emergency including:
Chaverim coordinates and provides manpower for missing person searches working hand-in-hand with local police departments. Chaverim’s mobile command center and specialty equipment, together with a dedicated cadre of trained volunteers have proven highly successful in this area.
During natural disasters, Chaverim comes prepared for the challenge by providing generators, helping evacuate in flood locations, and assisting with critical lighting, heating and cooling needs.
Inclement weather can cause travelers to become stranded due to flat tires, mud, snow, drained batteries or empty gas tanks. Chaverim members are experts at helping in such predicaments.
Safety Patrol cars travel a set route through many local neighborhoods to assist those who find themselves needing to avail themselves of such services on Shabbos and Yom Tov.
First on the scene in many cases during a crisis or when tragedy strikes, Chaverim advocates and helps families in need of comfort or assistance.
Chaverim’s dedicated team responds instantly to any suspicious activity locals report investigating, locating, observing and reporting suspicious activity to local police. Working together, Chaverim makes our community a safer place.
Chaverim confirms ownership and then opens locked doors for those left on the outside.
Chaverim is happy to help find and recover valuables that were lost, left behind or are beyond reach.
Chaverim is able to assist with pest removal and relocation.
Including Lift Assist – Chaverim assists disabled individuals to better maneuver around their homes and community.
Chaverim is actively involved in raising safety awareness. Chaverim’s popular yearly fair includes giveaways such as helmets and reflectors; bike registration to discourage thefts and demonstrations on the proper installation of car seats. Chaverim also provides lighting, security efforts, and traffic control for community events.
